Squadron Leader Winston Forde attended the Prince of Wales School, Kingtom, Freetown from 1951 to 1958 and was a School prefect and Head Boy. He was appointed as temporary Geography teacher for one school year at the Albert Academy, Freetown in 1958.
He has always been interested in young people in education, and served as a Governor of Bedstone College, Shropshire from 17 February 1987 to 17 March 2001.
During a week’s visit to Freetown in July 2000, he visited the Hillside Day Care and was immediately struck by the dedication and commitment of all those concerned in the care and education of those children under such adverse circumstances. He concluded that their efforts, both in teaching, caring and learning was a valuable service, which will contribute greatly to the future well being of Sierra Leone.
He became equally determined to support the Hillside spirit in whatever way he could, on his return to Headquarters Strike Command.
It behoves all those who can do so, to support this very noble venture and so make a real and lasting contribution to humanity and the future generations of the new Sierra Leone.
You are, therefore, invited to become a friend of the Hillside Day Care Centre. If you accept, you will be expected to make a reasonable donation, but at least £5, on a regular monthly basis to provide a reliable and sustainable financial resource. In addition, your continued interest in the work of the school would be most welcome, including any other contribution you are able to offer towards the development and education of these traumatized children of Sierra Leone.
Alternatively, we would of course appreciate a one-off donation should you so desire.
